Lower Hutt (Māori: Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai) is the second largest area in the Wellington region of the North Island. Part of the Hutt Valley, where it gets its name, the city is known as Wellington’s big backyard due to its relaxed, community-focused lifestyle, supplemented by expansive green spaces and a reputation as a craft beer scene. At the southern end of the Hutt Valley, it's immediately northeast of Wellington City. The city lies mainly on the plain of the Hutt River, which is a key recreational area with popular walking and cycling trails. The area is also linked by the Eastern and Western Hutt Hills, providing a lush backdrop of hiking and mountain biking trails. The city is a rare example of 1950s town planning, being a significant exemplar of the Garden City concept. The city is also home to the Dowse Art Museum, recognised for a progressive collection of New Zealand art, ceramics, and jewelry. For a night out, visit Petone's craft scene on Jackson Street and the surrounding industrial areas, and enjoy late-night dining and drinks at Seashore Cabaret and La Bella Italia with Lower Hutt escorts.
